Is there an age limit for the tours?
Yes. The age limit is 10 years old and children ages 10-15 are required to ride on a tandem kayak with an adult. However, there may be possible exceptions for private group tours. Please contact us for more information.
Do I need to be an experienced kayaker?
No. You can be a first timer as our experienced guides will provide you with safety instructions and basic kayaking techniques prior to going on the water. Also, our kayaks are “sit-on-top” kayaks which are more stable and easier to handle compared to traditional kayaks.
How fit do I need to be?
This is a level easy to moderate kayaking tour so most people with reasonable fitness should be able to do this tour. However, please note that overweight individuals may experience some problems fitting into the drysuits. Our drysuits range from S-XXL with a good range of shoe sizes available.
What do I wear?
You will be provided with a drysuit, shoes, gloves and a life vest. You wear your own clothes underneath. We recommend something comfortable and nothing too thick. If it is cold outside it is also a good idea to bring a hat.
Can I bring a camera or a phone on the tour?
Of course you can! We strongly recommend using a waterproof camera or phone case and if you do not already have one, we have waterproof phone pouches available for purchase at our meeting point. Please note that you take your phone or camera on the water at your own risk.
Can the kayak tip over?
Yes. Although our “sit on top” kayaks are very stable this can of course happen. However, your guide has the necessary equipment and ability to help you get back on your kayak. And remember, all participants have a life vest and drysuit to stay nice and dry in the unlikely event that they fall overboard.
Can we choose our kayak type?
No. While the majority of our kayaks are single seat, we also have several tandem kayaks for use when children ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult. However, in the case of a fully booked tour with no children some guests will be required to use the tandem kayaks. Your guide will then assign the kayaks based on experience and best practice.
What if it is raining or bad weather?
Rain is a constant part of life in Iceland and we do not let it stop us from being outside and enjoying nature! All tours will go forward as planned regardless of rain. However, your safety is most important and if our guides determine that the weather or water conditions are not safe for kayaking we will cancel the tour. This can sometimes happen with very short notice as the weather conditions can change very rapidly in Iceland. In the event that your tour must be cancelled, we will try our best to reschedule the tour. If that is not possible, we will of course issue a full refund.
What if I am late for my tour?
It is not possible to wait for late guests as that affects our time schedule as well as the other guests on the tour. Failure to be at our meeting point by the scheduled departure time of your tour will result in the cancellation of your booking and the forfeiture of your full booking fee. We highly recommend carefully checking the travel time from your location to our meeting point, as travel can often take more time than expected here in Iceland. We also recommend arriving at least 15-20 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time.
What is your cancellation policy?
If my tour is canceled, how and when will I receive my refund?
If you cancel your tour at least 48 hours prior to scheduled departure time or Vestur Adventures cancels your tour because of weather, safety or other unforeseen issues, we will issue a full refund to the card that you paid with. The refund can take up to one week to be processed. Please contact us if you have not received your refund by that time.
